FedEx is known for its speedy deliveries. However, most people drop off their packages and don't think about the delivery again until they receive confirmation that the package arrived safely at its destination.

But do you ever stop to think about how those FedEx packages are delivered so promptly in Philadelphia and throughout the country? Delivery truck drivers must follow a tight schedule, and there can be penalties for failing to deliver packages promptly.

Whether he was rushing to deliver a package or just driving negligently, one FedEx driver caused a truck accident that sent more than a dozen people to the hospital.

The police report said that the preliminary investigation shows that the FedEx driver caused the crash by running a red light and crashing into a transit bus. Although there are buses that travel through the city mostly empty, that was not the case here. The transit bus was crowded, and there were 30 people on the bus.

Of those people, 25 were evaluated for injuries. Police confirmed that 23 people were being treated for injuries, and 18 people -- including the bus driver -- were transported to the hospital. Several people were taken from the bus on stretchers.

A 16-year-old wheelchair-bound girl was also sent to the hospital. Emergency response crews were not certain what type of injuries she suffered, but they wanted to take extra caution with her.

One emergency responder said they initially had 5-10 people who were complaining of injuries. "But as we started assessing patients inside the bus, we found more people who were complaining about injuries."

Thankfully, none of the people on the bus suffered life-threatening injuries. However, it may take days or weeks for the full extent of the injuries to be understood. At that point, injured passengers may hold the negligent truck driver accountable.
