On Jan. 14, a woman allegedly caused a fatal car accident while driving under the influence, killing her husband and her 26-year-old daughter. The woman faces manslaughter charges for wrongful death. Sadly, drunk driving accidents happen across the country, including in Philadelphia.

The 51-year-old woman was driving a 2002 Toyota Tacoma pickup north on the highway at approximately 3:45 p.m. when she sideswiped a Chevrolet Silverado following an unsafe lane change at a high rate of speed. No one in the Silverado suffered any injuries.

The Tacoma came to a rest on its wheels after rolling multiple times. The driver's daughter, who was sitting in the backseat, was ejected from the vehicle. She was wearing a seatbelt, but she was pronounced dead on the scene, police reported.

The husband of the driver, who was 67 years old, died as a result of injuries caused by the accident. He was pronounced dead at at approximately 11 p.m. shortly after being transported, police stated.

The driver's grandson was also in the vehicle, he and survived without injuries. According to reports, the boy was a year old, but further investigation revealed he is actually 3 years old.

The driver received only minor injuries from the accident. She was taken into custody on Jan. 16, and it is unknown when she will appear in court. A friend of the driver, who is also the boy's godmother, said that it did not surprise her that the woman had been drunk at the time of the accident due to the fact that it has been a reoccurring problem.
